Dr. Faith Gibson Hubbard is a passionate advocate, educator, public policy and engagement expert, strategist, community organizer, and connector whose career has been rooted in strengthening communities, advancing systems change, and building partnerships that expand opportunity.
She is the CEO and Principal of FGH Strategies, a consulting firm that supports community-based organizations in achieving their goals and increasing their impact through organizational strategy, external relations, partnership development, advocacy, and community engagement. She currently serves as the Interim President and CEO of the Greater Washington Urban League.
On September 29, 2021, Dr. Gibson Hubbard announced her candidacy for the Ward 5 seat on the Council of the District of Columbia. Over the course of ten months, she strategically built and managed a strong campaign, galvanizing volunteer and community support and earning the votes of thousands of Ward 5 residents. As a first-time candidate, she finished in second place, demonstrating broad community trust, strong civic leadership, and a durable, diverse network of District residents, leaders, and partners who continue to work with and support her.
Previously, Dr. Gibson Hubbard served as Director of the Mayor’s Office of Community Affairs and as the first Executive Director of Thrive by Five DC, where she led efforts to improve outcomes in perinatal health, early learning, and child development in the District of Columbia. Prior to Thrive by Five DC, she served as the first Chief Student Advocate for the District, establishing the DC Office of the Student Advocate. She also served as Interim Ombudsman for Public Education, leading the work of the DC Office of the Ombudsman for Public Education.
Dr. Gibson Hubbard’s leadership is shaped by deep civic engagement, board service, and a longstanding commitment to public service, education, community well-being, and systems change. She has served on and advised boards and governing bodies focused on public education, community development, perinatal health, public libraries, and ending violence against Black women and girls. Her service has included the DC Public Library Board of Trustees, the Board of Visitors for the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University, and service as a founding board member for Ujima, the National Center on Violence Against Women in the Black Community.
These experiences have strengthened her understanding of governance, fiduciary responsibility, public accountability, community voice, and the importance of strong institutions that are responsive to the people they serve.
She is an alumna of Education Pioneers and the PIE Network Leadership Institute, and a member of Education Leaders of Color. She is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., The Links, Incorporated, and Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated.
Dr. Gibson Hubbard holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Administration and Public Affairs from Virginia Tech, a Master of Public Administration from Old Dominion University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism/Public Relations from Georgia State University. She is a proud Ward 5 resident in Washington, DC, where she lives with her husband and two children.
